CPSO

The Community Policing and Services Office serves as a hub of information for downtown businesses, residents and shoppers.  Staffed by a Community Policing Coordinator, ByLaw Enforcement Officer and Volunteers, the CPSO provides information on safety concerns, crime prevention programs and general downtown information.

It houses the Citizens on Patrol, Harbour Watch, Speed Watch and the Auxiliary policing program.  Also working out of the office are employees of Footprints Security, a private security firm contracted by the City to provide daily foot patrols and security for the citizens of Nanaimo.

Volunteers are also needed to assist with delivery of programs. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Gord Nixon at the CPSO.

Bylaw Services

The DNBIA works hand in hand with the City of Nanaimo Bylaw Services Department to identify bylaw violations and to quickly resolve them. We both subscribe to the “Broken Windows” theory of public disorder. We believe that small violations of good order in the public realm are not small at all. By focusing attention on the details of public disorder, Bylaw Services helps prevent small problems from becoming larger ones.

Adopt-A-Block

To make a successful downtown, everybody needs to lend a hand. The Adopt-a-Block program is a reporting system where volunteers walk all 77 blocks which make up our Business Improvement Areas. They report incidents of disorder, bylaw and criminal offences or general safety concerns which get forwarded to the respective city departments.
